Don’t you hate unpredictable weather? No matter , whether its rain or shine , you can never be quite ready for it. One minute it’s a nice sunny day and then BOOM ! The thunder hits and next thing you know it your drenched from the pouring rain. I should know because I’ve had it happen to me. But when this type of weather comes you want to be ready for it.
Wait don’t worry. This is not a weather report or some ad review for new weather apparel . No .
I’m talking about the unpredictable weather of my work in progress werewolf novel , During the Blue Hour where I am currently on chapter 13 of my 2nd draft.
In my second draft the weather at the start of the novel has been one way for such a long time that when this terrible snow storm hits unexpectedly, the people of the mountain desert town, North Sun doesn’t know what to do.
The storm in the novel starts off lightly. But even this is a surprise to the people because they have never seen snow before. Only in books.
The people of the land as I like to call them only know the desert and the heat. So when this storm hits they have really no tools to combat it. They are caught entirely in the lurch of the storm .

From there I put all the characters of my book in peril. Even the background characters that are not mentioned . Because remember the weather will be affecting the whole town.
But the characters that have to face the weather are put through greater situations .
And by dealing with the weather changing they are dealing with themselves changing. Because characters need to change in the course of writing the novel.
And with the weather changing it also means that the stakes are growing substantially for the existence of the characters, bringing conflict in its wake.
The weather as an environmental conflict is a great way to create obstacles. Another villain of course
It also is represented by many symbols in my novel depicting a new awareness of each character of what they are feeling .
The weather changing is also foreshadowing a great battle that will carry out throughout the series once it’s done . So my character better be ready.
