I’m currently rewatching a tv show that I have watched a dozen times before. One of my favorites actually. It is the BBC show Merlin that premiered back in 2008. When I say this is one of my favorite shows. It’s like number one of my favorites .
I’m currently in the mist of rewatching season 4, the episode where Uther pendragon is fighting that jester dude that tried to kill Arthur.
That is enough spoilers for that episode but yeah I love that show.
MY FAVORITES OF THE SHOW
I have a lot of favorite characters which include mostly all the characters . The only ones I hate is Morgana and Morgause . Everyone I liked including the characters that got murked by Merlin in the earlier seasons like Nimueh. Yes another spoiler. Sorry about that but I loved this show. That was such a badass episode.
Another favorite was the great dragon. I loved a part in an episode where he stayed laughing so hard for what seemed longer than a minute at Uther marrying a troll. Because this dragon hates Uther so much. Although this episode was my least favorite.
I had favorite episodes and I had dissatisfying ones. I won’t go into much details because I do not want to spoil it for ones that haven’t watched the show but to say the least the overall show was satisfying but very different from the Arthurian lore.
They included it all. The knights of the round table , Excalibur, the sword in the stone, the lady of the lake ect.ect but changed up a lot of things within the show.
The main known difference is of course Merlin is not an old man but a teenage wizard and comes to Camelot to study under Gaius, I think who is his uncle but the series doesn’t really clarify it . Which I actually like this change in a way.
Arthur in this version is not yet king but a teenage prince who lives under his father Uther Pendragon’s rule.
In this version Uther has banned magic. He doesn’t have anything to do with Merlin. Merlin is not an advisor to the king but a manservant to Arthur .
Guinevere is also a servant in this version as well.
So those are mostly the main differences that were in the show .
THINGS I WAS CONFUSED ABOUT
I didn’t understand why Merlin didn’t and couldn’t tell Arthur he had magic. This part of the show was very annoying to me. And also that Gaius, who I don’t believe was in the original lore, why he was the one to always give bad advice to Merlin. His advice mixed with the great dragon’s advice made Merlin’s actions wishy washy. And it did feel like everything that happened badly was all Merlin’s fault because of their advice .
I was also confused about how Arthur was as a character. Even though he was strong, courageous, and noble he was also kind of mean and dumb when it came to Merlin’s use of magic. I mean he couldn’t wrap it around his head and understand that Merlin had magic? This notion was weird and every time Merlin would perform magic in front of him Arthur would miraculously fall out from a tree limb falling down or what not. I did not like that about the show because in lore he most definitely knew about Merlin’s magic.
Oh and don’t let me get started on that ending of the overall series. I was certainly confused about that ending. All in and all the one thing I wanted to see in the series was Merlin mentor Arthur. But that never happened. And that’s where they lost me. I wanted them to go deeper into the lore. They sure had enough seasons to do it.
Instead they just skimmed the surface of the lore. Half of the episodes of the 13 episodes from each season were basically filler episodes about banished sorcerer’s or magical creatures that came back to Camelot to exact their vengeance on Uther for banning magic. Okay I get it . It makes sense to have them come within the first couple episodes but get to the main lore of Arthur and Merlin after a while .
Another thing was they spent entirely too much time developing Morgana ‘s storyline into an evil sorceress . And then the reason they gave was because Uther lied to her about who she really was. To me it felt like a very weak reasoning.
I don’t know but they spent half of the overall series with her storyline . I wish they could do another series with the same cast like they have done with all the other shows that I have went off the air and came back. One site I found were these writers created an additional series 6 that finishes up the storylines pretty well and they bring it into the present called Merlin Kingdom Come . They wrote 13 screenplays that were written very well. I read the whole season in like 2 days . This would be perfect for a reunion series.
I can’t get enough of Arthurian legends . I’m going to start exploring some fiction books about the lore. I always loved the legend itself so much . And I’m probably going to write a Arthurian tale one day. I already have some ideas for it rolling around in my head but first I have to finish my work in progress novel During the Blue Hour.

My recent tv watch has fluctuated within the past couple of weeks . I couldn’t get into watching Black Sails even though I wanted to. I tried to say the least. But maybe one day I’ll go back to it and try to give it another watch . My excursion with watching historical dramas have continued and it has taken me and gave me an interest in watching the TV showVikings.
I always planned on watching Vikings . It was always in my queue for a long time. So a couple of weeks ago I started watching it. I couldn’t stop so much that now I am on season 5 . I always heard that it was on the same terms as Game of Thrones. But no this show is way better than Game of Thrones . Sorry GOT fans. Years ago I tried watching GOT and I always fell asleep on the first episode. So there is that..
But with Vikings I did not fall asleep. I don’t know if it was the continuous action scenes which I can say was even more exciting than Gladiator or 300 . I know those are old films but Vikings in my opinion kind of has that same vibe to it. And I loved every moment of it. And I Can’t wait until the spinoff show comes out .
Not only am I watching Vikings but I’m also finishing up watching Packed to the Rafters. Okay so I started watching this show a couple of months ago at the beginning of the year . The reason why I came upon this show was due to re watching H2O: Just Add Water .
Okay I know that is a kids show but I was technically still a teenager when the original show came out. So all the actors in that show are my age now. And I have watched everything with those actors and actress in it .
So with that same thought the actor that plays Lewis in the shows plays the son in Packed to the Rafters . He was actually my favorite in H20 but is not in Packed to the Rafters . And there is a whole connection from H2O: Just Add Water Packed to the Rafters but I’ll save that for another post.
But Packed to the Rafters is basically an Australian family show and I like it. It’s very interesting and a comedy drama that makes any person both laugh and cry . It has six seasons . I had to take a break from it after season 3 but I don’t want to spoil why . However I am back to watching it and I’m on the 5th season and I love it . I can’t get enough of it. Apparently there is going to be a sequel spinoff reunion show to this TV show as well and I can’t wait.
So I haven’t finished either of these two shows yet. So I will give a proper review of the two shows when I am finished watching them.

I’m on the roll with watching and reading historical dramas for some reason. I don’t know why. I just can’t stop .
A couple of days ago I just got finished watching the Poldark Series . The one with Aidan Turner from 2015-2019. Have you watched it yet? I had tried to watch the series maybe a year ago but I just couldn’t get into it but I saved it anyway. And I started to attempt to watch the series again a couple of weeks ago . And I must say I am glad I did watch the whole series this time . I was sad to see it end. The series itself ended on a cliffhanger on season 5 .
I wanted it to go on forever because the books series has a much longer story to it. Perhaps I need to add the book series to my summer book list.
(this is a amazon affiliate link. I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.)
POLDARK is basically about an English Captain named Poldark who comes home to Cornwell after 3 years of fighting in the American Revolution. The series follows his life and the life of his family and community .
I can’t say I loved it as much as the Outlander TV SERIES. But there were these pockets of favorite moments and scenes in the series that are going to be memorable for me and maybe get me to rewatch it.
There were favorite characters that I couldn’t wait for their scenes to come back on the screen . Maybe because the actors were so well suited for the character . I don’t know but they did a good job.
There were also those favorite characters you love to hate and every moment you watched you wished they got their comeuppance. But dammit that moment never came. But boy did that keep me on the edge of my couch . It was rather exciting .
I’m going to write another post about my favorite characters and favorite most hated characters from the TV Show Poldark. So look out for that . I can’t wait to show you .
I kind of have a secret interest, obsession and love for all things about pirates . In college I even made a magnetic pirate board game. I got a B- on it but hey . Can’t please them all.
With that thought the current show I’m now watching is BLACK SAILS.
(this is a amazon affiliate link. I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.)
BLACK SAILS Its a prequel to Treasure Island I’m only on the 2nd episode of the 1st season right now. So it’s really early to tell whether I like it right now for its story. But I’m willing to give it a chance . Since they introduced Long John Silver and made a mention of Black Beard (I would say in a pretty crude manner) . So I’ll let you know how it goes for me with this show in another post..
My current read as of now is the first book in the OUTLANDER SERIES .
I will also write an individual post on this as I read through it . So there might be more than one. I’m not as fast a reader as I once was (okay so a couple of months ago I did read a VC ANDREWS novel in like two nights . But that’s different. It was a much faster read. And it was DAWN. Who doesn’t love that book)
Well anyways I’m only on chapter 2 in OUTLANDER (so if this was the tv show it’s still the pilot) and I must say that so far the book compared to the pilot of the tv show is a breath of fresh air. Its filling in the blanks of certain things that was missing completely in the pilot . I’ll explain how on another post. But I’m going to keep on reading it and I’ll let you know how it goes.
