HOW TO WRITE THE HAPPY MOMENTS IN YOUR DARK FANTASY NOVEL

While scrolling through  Pinterest  looking for more interesting  ideas for my novel  I found a  picture of  teenagers or young  adults throwing snowballs at each other in the snow . Within  that moment  of seeing that picture  I stopped and realized I don’t  have any happy  moments for my main characters  in my work in  progress  werewolf  novel . Oh man !  What  can  I do? What should  I do?  Am I in trouble ? Is this a mistake?

I never realized I was doing that  and how important  it is to place those moments in the novel especially  right before a scene where – excuse  my language,  but where the shit hits the fan..

YES !  IAM  undoubtedly  sure there can be happy moments in a dark  fantasy novel. But  how do we write those moments ? Let’s explore this question…

We must remember as writers that our  characters  must  be able  to take a moment  to breath .  A moment  to reflect. A moment to have fun.  In novel writing  they are called sequel  scenes.   As  a  screenwriter  I know  these scenes  as  quiet scenes. Mediative scenes  that the character has after  going  through  a traumatic experience or event .

But these quiet  scenes  don’t always have to follow that event . Like  I said earlier these  quiet scenes can happen right  before shit  hits  the fan.  Right before what seems like  to be normality is  soon to be disturbed.

These quiet moments can be practically anything down to simply making  breakfast or having your character read a book.

So as the writer  we should all considers  how the characters rest and unwinds.  By doing this it allows the reader to see another  side of the characters and reveals new  insights of the character.  And who knows those reflective moments might be a happy one.
